Hello, my name is Ashley Hogsett, and I am the worship leader here at Wayne Hills Baptist Church. I am married to my highschool sweetheart, Michael, and together, we have two wonderful little boys, Nathan and Josiah. I have been raised at Wayne Hills, being in attendance since I was a toddler, growing up in the children’s ministry, AWANA program, and youth ministry here. WHBC is home to me!
My educational and training background is a bit unconventional for a worship leader. I graduated from Bryan College with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. I then completed training to become a certified medical laboratory scientist, and I have been working in the cytogenetics laboratory at UVA since 2012. So, in addition to being a worship leader, I’m also a formally trained science nerd who analyzes chromosomes!
So, how did I find myself a worship leader? Only God. God has guided and directed my life in such a way as to place me where I am in ministry today. I have no educational background in music or leadership, but I have a God-given passion for leading others in worship. God has placed me under various leaderships at opportune times to develop me as a musician and as a worshipper. I’ve been a part of worship ministry at Wayne Hills in some capacity since middle school, being a part of the praise team since 2005. In 2016, God opened the door for me to step into the leadership position for this team, and I am both honored and humbled to be able to lead others to connect to Him in worship!
